This is the third set of the miniature game. It was released on 19th March, 2004.
It was sold in Expansion Packs of 8 miniatures: 1 rare, 3 uncommons, 4 commons. $9.99.
There are 60 miniatures in the Archfiends expansion
Brace yourself for a random encounter dominated by demons, devils, and other outsiders, along with a horde of heroes, villains, and monsters. Taken straight from D&D rulebooks, such as the Monster Manual, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, Miniatures Handbook, Psionics Handbook, and Savage Species, these characters are ready for battle -- right out of the box.
Each Archfiends expansion pack contains 8 randomly selected, prepainted, fully assembled, collectible miniatures with double-sided statistic cards for use with the D&D roleplaying game or for fast-paced head-to-head combat.
"The set also features specific iconic characters from the Forgotten Realms world, including drow elf Drizzt Do'Urden, the central figure in the New York Times best-selling series of R.A. Salvatore novels."
The checklist that comes with the new archfiends expansions contains several rules updates and clarifications on its flip side: specifically, the rules regarding psionics, the 'phase out' ability, and the reserve pool variant rule for out of the box games. It also contains a lengthy clarification of two of the Champion of Eilistraee's commander effects, namely that her followers wielding swords gain +2 to attack and +2 ac, and that she has the warband building ability with regards to drow. In the example given, it is suggested that as it is not always explicit whether a minature has a sword of some kind, or whether they are considered drow, the flip side of the card containing the D&D rules should be consulted as they better list the existance of swords in the creatures arsenal, and whether they have the drow subtype, also going on to give a list of weapons considered to be 'swords'.
